Course Summary

So, you’ve heard about blockchain but don’t really understand the hype? Don’t worry, you’re not alone here. The prominence of crypto-currencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum, two applications built on blockchain foundations, has significantly increased the coverage the technology receives. Unfortunately, it has also fueled a wider misunderstanding of what it is, when it can be used, and the benefits it can bring to an existing process. Do you want to step away from the confusion? If so, “An Introduction to Blockchain” can help you.
Blockchain, one of the emerging technologies offered as part of SAP Leonardo, is often explained in terms of its decentralization, it’s distributed ledgers, and its immutability. Whilst these are integral aspects of blockchain, they don’t provide the complete picture of this much talked about technology. In “An Introduction to Blockchain” we’ll move beyond the buzzwords though and offer a more detailed look into the technology’s emergence, the solutions it can provide, and its potential uses in a wide number of industries.

The course starts by addressing the difference between blockchain and crypto-currencies, and then gathers momentum with a practical example of how the technology can be used as a solution to issues faced in current business transactions. By understanding how blockchain solves real life situations, you’ll start to not only understand its key components but also see its benefits, its application, and even its weaknesses.

In addition to use cases, this course also provides a high-level look into the technology itself. Here you’ll learn about the jigsaw of existing technologies that are combined to create blockchain, many of which you’ll find in everyday use.

Whilst understanding the key terms and the technology are important, this course goes further to also allow you to identify blockchain’s value drivers, helping you to assess whether it’s a suitable solution for a project or process. This understanding of blockchain’s value is then strengthened with an explanation of SAP’s blockchain strategy and the tools that we offer. Here we investigate how blockchain can be used to create proof-of-concepts in industries such as pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, and the public sector.

By offering this course we hope to demystify the topic of blockchain for you, helping you enhance your knowledge and confidence in the topic.
