New courses: Data Science, Deep Learning, and Software Development on SAP HANA

Dear openSAP community,

We have three brand new courses now open for enrollment and starting over the coming weeks. We’re revisiting Machine Learning and Data Science with new hands-on courses, Data Science in Action - Building a Predictive Churn Model and Enterprise Deep Learning with TensorFlow. We’re also bringing you the latest updated on our very first course at openSAP with Software Development on SAP HANA (Update Q4/2017).

Software Development on SAP HANA (Update Q4/2017)

If you’ve previously taken one of these courses at openSAP or if you’re just an experienced SAP HANA developer, then this course is ideal for you. In this course, we’ll start from the assumption that students are familiar with the basics of the previous SAP HANA courses focused on SAP Web IDE for SAP HANA to develop both HDI (SAP HANA Deployment Infrastructure) and XSA (SAP HANA extended application services, advanced model). This will allow us to dive deeper on key topics from real world applications. We’ll also cover new functionality added in SAP HANA 2.0 SPS 0 – SPS 02. This course starts from November 15 and enrollment is now open!

Enterprise Deep Learning with TensorFlow

This is a follow-up to our previous course, Enterprise Machine Learning in a Nutshell. This course provides a hands-on introduction to deep learning for developers and data scientists, using Google’s TensorFlow framework. You’ll learn to build deep learning models for enterprise problems, including when to use deep learning and when not to use deep learning. The course will be presented by SAP experts from SAP Innovation Center Network with special guests from JP Morgan Chase, NVIDIA, Google, and others. The course starts October 23 and enrollment is now open!

Data Science in Action - Building a Predictive Churn Model

Stuart Clarke is returning to openSAP with the next steps in data science. This course includes hands-on exercises so you can experience the complete process from the view of a data scientist! We’ll start by setting the scenario for you with a business case study for a telecommunications company. You’ll learn to prepare the data and create an analytical data set, conduct an initial data analysis, and learn how to encode the data. You’ll develop a churn model, evaluate its performance, and learn how to productionize it. Finally, you’ll learn how to monitor and maintain a model, build a segmentation, and improve model performance. The course starts November 8 and enrollment is now open!

We have five courses available for young people including a brand new course, Design Your First App with Build, along with our previous courses, Code Week: Teaching Programming to Young Learners (English and French) and Code Week: Teens Get Coding! (English and French). The courses are not restricted to children and teenagers – no matter what age you are, if you’d like to get started with coding then sign up and take part!

Design Your First App with Build
Starting from October 4, this course will help you to develop your own “Design Thinking”. You’ll learn how to use a free and fun prototyping tool called SAP Build. The course has been especially designed for young people interested in technology, but with little or no development experience. By the end of this 4-week course, your greatest achievement will be that you won’t just be using apps, you’ll be designing them with confidence too!

Code Week: Teaching Programming to Young Learners (English | French)
Starting from September 26, this course is aimed at teachers and parents of pre-teens to help you encourage children to get involved in programming and coding from an early age. You don’t need to know anything about coding to take part! This course will introduce you to Scratch, a free coding system by MIT. You’ll learn how to use the system and how to teach children how to use it and put their imagination and creativity to work. The course is available in English and French.

Code Week: Teens Get Coding! (English | French)
Starting from September 26, this course is aimed at teenagers and young people interested in learning how to code. You’ll learn how to use the free Scratch system provided by MIT. Our series of design courses have proven very popular with the openSAP community and we are happy to announce a brand-new course, Basics of Design Testing (Edition Q4/2017), and a new edition for our popular Developing Software Using Design Thinking (Edition Q4/2017).

Basics of Design Testing (Edition Q4/2017)
Design testing is often called user testing, usability testing, user acceptance testing, validation, and many other terms. This course will introduce you to design testing and covers the basics, how to prepare, and best practices. One of the most important elements is to test early and test often with the right target group. By testing early, you can identify possible issues early on, find out what’s wrong, and make the necessary changes. This course begins on October 11 and runs for five weeks. Enrollment is now open!

Developing Software Using Design Thinking (Edition Q4/2017)
This course is returning to openSAP in Q4 and it gives learners another chance to take part in the group work, where there are a limited number of spaces (required to earn a Record of Achievement). Even if you don’t have time to join the group work, you can still learn about design thinking through the videos and ask questions in the forum. The course is now open for enrollment and you can apply to take part in the group work from October 17. Please ensure that you can commit to your group before you apply for the group work.

Improve Your UX with Text and Design Thinking!

Dear openSAP Community,

User experience and design are important elements of software development and openSAP has been delivering a variety of courses by SAP’s design experts to help you improve the overall experience for your end users. We have two design courses now open for enrollment – Copywriting: Improve User Experience One Word at a Time is new to openSAP and Developing Software Using Design Thinking (Edition Q2/2017) returns this June.

Copywriting: Improve User Experience One Word at a Time
The words that you use throughout your app or site are just as important as its interaction and visual design. But the words – or copy – are often an afterthought. All too frequently we use words like “Submit” and “Cancel” on our UIs as if we’re talking to a computer and not a human. We need to bring a personal touch to the words on the screen. This course explains why it’s vital to think about the words as part of your design. You’ll get practical advice on how to write effective and compelling copy that will delight your users, with examples brought to you by Bill Beard, branding consultant and copywriter, and the SAP User Assistance (UA) and UX Design teams. The course begins June 19 and enrollment is now open.

Developing Software Using Design Thinking
If you joined this course in Q1 but didn’t have the chance to take part in the group work, you’ve now got a second chance to apply. Everyone is welcome to enroll and join this course to explore design thinking. To earn a Record of Achievement for Developing Software Using Design Thinking, you will need to take part in the group work, collaborating with your peers in a virtual environment. There is a limited number of spaces available so please ensure that you can commit the required time. The course begins from June 13 and enrollment is now open. You can apply for the group work during week 1 (starting June 13).
